A Lesson In Hope

Today's Indian Express has the following article about sentencing of a rapist in the USA.
What has caught my attention and brightened up my day is the rare hope and positive outlook the rape victim Elizabeth Smart exhibits when she confronts the rapist with "I have a wonderful life now and no matter what you do, you will never affect me again...."

Rape is a heinous crime which crushes the soul and the mind, much more than the body. And it assumes such sinister proportions when it is inflicted not once, not twice but "near-daily" for almost an year in sub-human conditions.
If a girl can stare the rapist in the eye and proudly declare that she can not let her whole life be affected by what some pervert did to her once, it is a lesson in near-spiritual bravery, which needs to be applauded.
